Steffi reaches podium with being sick!
We went to Valkenswaard for the first race of the World Championship this year. As we know it would be complete new episode for Steffi as she has new partners - new brand - new goals - and no complete World Championship.
However Steffi wanted to show the Golden Rabbit Kawasaki in front in the race!
Steffi explains her complete weekend.
STEFFI LAIER: " I can look back to a good weekend. I was feeling very good on Sunday and was happy with me 2nd position in the first race. We had some little problems during the day but the team worked very hard to get it all done and give me the best feeling to ride...
I really took it easy on the practice sessions and didn't really push to safe energy for the main events. The first race I last the contact with Fontanesi in the first half of the race but on the last laps I could come back. I showed there I was the fastest and gave me a good feeling for Monday's race.
But in the night on Monday I started to be sick and couldn't keep any food in my body... I felt horrible and I even needed to stop the Warming up session. I even thaught I could not ride the second race on Monday but I pushed my limits to make it happen. I really wanted to battle for second place as Fontanesi was gone... But I really had no power in my body... So on the end I am happy to give the team a podium...
It was a very strange feeling this weekend. Seeing the WC a little bit from the sideline gave me a sad feeling to redraw. As I am a racer I want to ride championship and win but with complete no interests behind is hard to get it all financial done... I want to give my fans the Dutch Championship title and score at some special events what brings some benefits...
I am recovering now from the sickness and let my body rest for a week! Then I am ready to race again."
